The painting transports the viewer into an atmosphere of evening stillness and contemplation. In the foreground, tall trees are depicted, their shadows reflected on the surface of a body of water. These trees, painted in deep, nearly black tones, contrast strongly with the bright colors of the sky, enhancing the drama of the scene.
